LG is regarded as being one of the best OEMs in terms of smartphone audio. That considered, the G8 ThinQ, LG's 2019 flagship, should offer excellent audio, right? Well, the phone has now been tested by DxOMark, with some shocking results.

Interesting...the bottom 3 are all supposed to have above-average audio, one a gaming phone, one with focus on native 4K playback, one boasts about audio performance.

DXO don't know anything about Boombox feature , they should put the phone on a surface to use that feature and with No Quad-dac test they just showed how clueless their are about audio.
not to mention auto mode testing of random pics for camera test.
is this how reviews are becoming....

"I own an LG V40 ThinQ with a similar setup and have never found the phone's speaker quality to be groundbreaking in any aspect."
and I own an LG G7 ThinQ and I am enjoying the boombox feature when watching youtube or won't to listen to music like mini speaker

The G7 has louder speakers than the V40.

Honestly, I feel smartphones speakers are a joke and testing them for loudness or quality is pointless. At that level of thinness, what can you expect? What DxOMark should be testing is mic/capture quality (how good it is at filtering out noise) and audio output when connected to desktop speakers.

To most people in most cases, they're just testing how annoying the speakers get in a public environment like the subway, but in certain instances relatively good speakers still make a tangible difference.

With the boom box technology you need to put it on a solid item or better a hollow box for best results(interesting side point sound quality is highly dependant the speaker box in general which means you can make very cheap speakers though the audio is set up to tell you otherwise you only need high end magnets if making small speakers)The lg7 thin q has great volume but to much resonance if not put on a box which works well.

Seems that DxO's methodology is, again, flawed. But a function that needs contact with a flat surface would be far less useful than regularly good speakers, since it's likely to be useless while gaming or watching videos.

I really believe that all those test are only good in theory. I've tested many devices that scored high on DxOMark but have just a medium- standard performance. Just like the IPXX test(example: IP68) is valid only under specific circumstances that only happen in the lab and not in real life, so are the DxOMark Tests. Just ignore them! The marketing team does all the job

LG G7 ThinQ Boom Box feature works best & ends with it here.
Get it new if you can.
Not the G8 or the G8X, V50 Performance is much better to give up the G7 Boom Box ability.

Not just just gimmick, it's pure lie. I bought the LG G7 ThinQ and waited with bated breath for audio world, but man, disappointment is an understatement..
