No, Thunderbolt is and always has been a premium only feature, and it will continue to be that way. Unlike before, some mid-range laptops are starting to get TB4 thanks to AMD's competition, but entry-level and low-end will remain the same with only USB-C.
As for Thinkpads, anything other than the P series will most likely not be upgradeable in the future. On the other hand, consumer laptops from Lenovo itself and other OEMs are starting to focus more on modularity and serviceability thanks to the Right to Repair movement gathering more interest outside of the Tech Enthusiast community.
As always, a wise course of action isn't sticking to one 'credible' brand, but instead doing the right research and finding a product that comes out on top at a given time period between the start and end of the market's release cycle.
