The Huawei Mate 30 Pro may be the ugliest and most inconvenient flagship smartphone of 2019

Wow Huawei's playing to their strong suit again, paying for an army of shills to mislead the public, I've never seen so many comments under a short opinion piece on NBC.

Mate30P's ugly but IMO the bulk of the ugliness was already present in P30P. They flattened the mid frame in a very wrong way that looks like a last minute ad lib design change, this significant ugly detail is shared between the two models, while in comparison Samsung's Note10 has the mid frame flattened through a refined and holistic approach that simply looks sophisticated, in other words the concept has slight similarities but the execution is worlds apart.

I also agree on the volume control, if it's touch then it's gonna be a gimmick. How does this allow for a protective case? Cutting a hole would look ridiculous. It would also be prone to accidental touch.
If it's pressure based that would be another issue.

So people attacking the author for an opinion is rude. I disagree, but he has the ability to have his opinion. Also agree it seems that some of the comments are coming from biased Chinese commenters.

However, I do like the design of the phone and plan on buying it when I visit China in October. I believe my mate 20 Pro is the best phone of 2018, and this year I have the new Galaxy Note 10+ and still think this phone will be better.

As far as no Google services, that's not a huge deal. Every year I get my phone in China and when I come back to the US, I sideload Google Play and then get all of their apps. Takes 15 minutes at the most.

The most important thing is Huawei cameras are usually best and that's what I care most about in a phone.

I think that the author is wrongheaded, but he is entitled to his own opinion. If you don't like it, then just move on or make a substantive counter-argument. Simple as that.

Attacking his nationality or alleged motivations is just desperation.

I disagree with the authors harsh criticism and while the design language may not appeal to every consumer its certainly not as hideous as he claims. I upgraded to a mate 20 pro from an iPhone and I couldn't be more happy. I love huwawei so much I'm switching to the matebook Pro from myacbook Pro. Apple is no longer an industry leader but a cult of personality that insults the intelligence of its fanbase yearly.

This article is just speculative but if it is the real deal I think the Mate 30 Pro looks great.

Dumbasses can't tell it's an opinion piece. Dumbasses also use Trump as a facsimile for the US when over half the people there want to throw him into the ocean.

As a former mate 20x and p30 pro owner, here are some things I know this phone will screw up.

1. The oled will be a low quality BOE panel. Highly inaccurate colors and greyscale. A return to the galaxy s4 days. There's a reason why they never send it to third party display calibration sites for testing. It's not a good panel.
2. The curve on the screen will be overbearing like the mate 20 pro and p30 pro, heavily distorting the image. Chasing after samsung without learning from them. Samsung has significantly toned down their curves in the past few years because they realized it was stupid.
3. The new kirin processor will post nice big benchmark scores but the user experience will be slow and laggy due to the messy Android skin known as EMUI.
4. The cameras will be overblown, low resolution, cartoonified BS. It can take "images" in pitch black. Calling them photos would be an insult to even potato cams on flip phones
5.The video quality will be several steps behind competitors because the kirin processor will lack the power and bandwidth to process them from the full sensor width, especially with their crude electronic stabilization. And low light video is gonna look like a jittery mess because you can't turn off that crude stabilization.
6. Battery life is gonna be amazing because it heavily throttles the processor and kills background apps constantly.
7.it's gonna cost as much as an overpriced iPhone, if not more. Probably includes a pair of freebuds, their airpod copycat that looks just as ugly.
8. Ugly ugly notch. No headphone jack. But an IR blaster remains!
9. Proprietary expansion card no one asked for.

Performance is what matters, they are yet to unveil their next gen beast which makes other brands green with envy every time. You may be unhappy with something, but they will do that again this year too. Not even google can stop that.

Performance is what matters? Funny cause that's the opposite of the tone of the Huawei fanboys in the past (well, just look at the messes that are Kirin 970 and 960 and how they lied about the meager improvements GPU Turbo yields).
OTOH Kirin 990's performance is rather underwhelming for what's supposed to be next generation. It barely catches up with SD855+ with heavy marketing emphasis on the gimmicky SA 5G support (which you won't see until the 990 is two years obsolete) and...further progress towards a fabricated "AI" arms race.

Really? I think you may find that wiring and phones needs to be more than opinion - and a paycheck.
