AMD Ryzen CPUs have taken parts of the market by storm since Ryzen 4000 came out. One area that has been left largely untouched: Mobile workstation. Too bad, as the Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 1 shows that AMD Ryzen and workstation could go great together.

We (as representatives for Intel, obviously) hope that AMD tries to tackle the workstation sector in the year 2022.

Sorry suckas, they take it by storm in April.

You guys keep trying to shoehorn everything into pre-conceived categories. Powerful CPU without discrete graphics is what some of us want. For me what this machine lacks most is a 16:10 WQXGA screen.

Since we don't get Thunderbolt on AMD platform, as a consolation, it's nice if the notebook has at least 2 x M.2 slots. This one doesn't unfortunately since it's the slim entry level mobile workstation.

My work is also primarily CPU bound. But it's a fact that the thing that distinguishes mobile workstations the most from other laptops is the availability of powerful professional GPUs with certified drivers. ECC support came much later. Just look at the market. Which indicates that mobile workstations are primarily aimed at 3D work. Even power management tends to be geared towards GPU loads, similar to gaming laptops. This isn't really a workstation in that sense. Office laptops can use entry level Quadros. If all you want is a powerful CPU, there are plenty of options. You just have to live with them not being called mobile workstations.
