Samsung introduced two new smartphone image sensors today. Dubbed the GW1 and GM2, the sensors can produce images up to 64 and 48 MP, respectively, thanks to incredibly small pixels. Both sensors feature 0.8 μm pixels, which are currently the smallest on the market. The sensors can be expected to shine in phones in the latter half of 2019.

The issue is, again, whether or not this sensor reads out individual pixels, or like last time the readout is perplexingly limited to a 4-1 bin when the Samsung could only match the Sony counterpart on paper but is much worse in practice.
