Title: Lenovo Legion Y730-15ICH (i5-8300H, GTX 1050 Ti) Laptop Review
Post by: Redaktion on January 04, 2019, 21:32:54
The Legion Y730 is the higher-end alternative to the Legion Y530 and legion Y7000 with flagship-like features including per-key RGB lighting, Thunderbolt 3, and dedicated Macro keys. It's just too bad that current SKUs are limited to the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti.

QuoteFlagship features, mainstream price.
Extremely overpriced 1050 Ti & slow response 60 Hz panel.
Useless and absolutely no future proof. Worst value per money.

For $1k gamers can buy a used 7th gen gaming laptop with i7-7700HQ, full GTX 1070 and 100% sRGB 120Hz display, such as a Clevo P650HS-G or MSI GE63.

Or get a portable rig like a Gigabyte Aero 14/15W v7 with identical CPU, GTX 1060 and 94Wh battery in a light 2kg chassis.

i5-8300H = i7-7700HQ
GTX 1070 >>> 1050 Ti

And they'll get increasingly cheaper once the new Nvidia and AMD graphics are out.

Hence why these "budget" gaming laptops are obviously redundant for the buyers on the lookout.

Does this screen really use PWM? Is that by any chance a mistake?
How come every single other y530/y730 review shows that the screen has no PWM?
notebookcheck y730 15 inch 60hz - uses PWM
notebookcheck y730 17 inch 60hz - DOESN'T use PWM
notebookcheck y730 17 inch 144hz - DOESN'T use PWM
notebookcheck y530 15 inch 60hz - DOESN'T use PWM
laptopmedia y730 15 inch 144hz - DOESN'T use PWM
laptopmedia y530 15 inch 60hz - DOESN'T use PWM

I was about to buy y730 17inch 144hz laptop, but it seems like it cannot be predicted, whether it will have PWM. :( I see no correlation between models and PWM/non-PWM screens. :(
