Title: HP Pavilion 15 (AMD Ryzen 5 2500U, Vega 8) Laptop Review
Post by: Redaktion on October 05, 2018, 02:06:51
In comparison to Intel models, AMD Ryzen processors are still rare in the mobile laptop market. This makes it even more interesting for us to have an AMD-powered HP in our office.

The 3DMark11 result is odd. Same machine:

Valid result
Score P3 618 with AMD Radeon Vega 8(1x) and AMD Ryzen 5 2500U

Graphics Score
    3 660

Physics Score
    5 645

Combined Score
    2 227

this thing is pretty cheap. ~519 euro in my shops(moscow) for the perfect config 2500u/8/1000hdd+128ssd(w/o os). ips, usb-c, some metal, quite light&thin, backlit, nice different colors, all stuff like that. close to be named a steal . screen yeah, screen is for indoor use only. the main thing i dont like-cooler/power settings. how about giving apu the ability to consume 25 watts and reduce fan speed at idle? noisy&throttle=>silent&powerful. just make such settings dear hp ffs this isnt too hard. also i feel that 2300u ryzen should look better. same speed but cost less.

I think the review Laptop had Fan always on. It´s possible to turn this off in the BIOS.

I can't give you the numbers, but it's quieter. Browsing the Web, watching Youtube, videos etc the Fan won't kick in. My laptop ran like two weeks with Fan always on and I started to look for a solution. Now I don't notice it anymore.

ok. good. i see that your version of this laptop review is slightly different from notebookchek guys. and a have two rhetorical questions 1. to HP: why the hell would you do that? 2. to notebookchek: why the hell would you do that?
Title: Performance with BIOS Update?
Post by: Zach on January 12, 2019, 15:43:03
I was curious as if you had the chance to run the same benchmarks with the newest BIOS and graphics drivers available from HP? It looks like there have been two BIOS updates since the one on the HWInfo in this review, with the most recent specifically mentioning "improved system performance," and two graphics drivers updates as well.

It's stamped aluminium. It gets the job done but doesn't feel very high quality. Guess it's better then plastic.

Vega 8 is a step above 940mx which will play much more than "browser games" and is much better than UHD 620.
