Title: Asus ROG Strix GL504GM Hero II (i7-8750H, GTX 1060, FHD) Laptop Review
Post by: Redaktion on August 31, 2018, 19:04:16
A hero for the masses. Excellent performance sustainability and a beautiful 144 Hz IPS display make the GL504 one of the more impressive 15-inch gaming notebooks in the market. A couple of missing features prevent the system from being a "must have" for the mainstream gamer.

Very important question that needs clarification:

is GL504GM Hero II the same as GL504GM Scar II specs-wise and is the difference only in visuals?

Because, AFAIK, in Europe currently only the Scar II versions are available (GS with 1070 and GM with 1060), but it's not clear whether the brighter screen and the Optimus technology is also available on the Scar II version of the GM, or is it only for the Hero II?

Looking again at the insides, all the connectors are soldered on the motherboard, as always with the Chinese and as always with Asus. And the failure of audio connectors at them quite usual practice (that does not happen on the same MSI/Lenovo/Dell). Repairability is none against the backdrop of HP Omen and other, more serious brands. 1700 euros and not even TB3.0. HDMI does not understand what version - 2.0a or 2.0b (required to support HDR Log-gamma curves for viewing 4k movies on TV / projectors). Well, what is this, why are such important things not mentioned in the review?

I'm about to buy this exact laptop, just Scar edition which I'm told has only minor or cosmetic changes, but I hear it has terrible problems (at least some of them) with CPU heat management, with some reaching 95-100C and of course throttling. Can you clarify?

Hey guys, I also have a question about your heat temps - a lot of other reviews have shown the temps to be significantly hotter than yours, by about 20 degrees, and I'd like to know what you did differently.

Laptop media (I can't post the link) have a review with the 1060 which shows up to 88 degrees for GPU and 95max/80constant for CPU

Can you clarify?
Title: Graphic design

Hello!
Do you reckon that this laptop has a good enough screen for graphic design?
Thank you!

Doesn't seem normal. I have this laptop and mine have never gotten over 80C CPU/GPU on load. Possibly bad stock pasting?

Look like Asus the only manufacturer that has good heat management. compare to other option in the comparison chart by far better in term of heating. it is just not thin and light as competitor.
I mean the laptop is good, but i was hoping it to be a little thinner and lighter.

I paid over $2000 for this piece of junk for my son. On the third month of use the touch pad stopped working, had to send it away for repair, it was a hardware issue. ASUS warranty was very good, fixed it in under a month, 2-3 weeks to be exact. A few months later started having problems with re-downloading apps such as Armory crate (controls fans and lighting). It would not download, kept freezing and crashing. The pc is too dependent on external apps to make it work as a proper gaming laptop. If those don't work (and they never do) you cant change lighting and fan speed. Now a year and a half later the keyboard takes 10-15 minutes to turn on after a restart. Keyboard drivers appear and disappear every few minutes The fan NEVER turns off and is very loud even when just reading  google articles. Fresh install of windows does not fix the problem. This laptop is plagued with all kinds of issues both software and hardware. I ended up buying him an Acer Predator Triton gaming laptop and so far it has been amazing.

even the consoles need to be cleaned of dust...
