Title: Dell XPS 15 9575 vs. HP Spectre x360 15 2018: Kaby Lake-G Showdown
Post by: Redaktion on August 28, 2018, 03:58:32
One Kaby Lake-G Winner. We benchmark and compare the only two laptops in existence currently shipping with Kaby Lake-G processors. We were expecting overall results to be quite similar between them, but they couldn't have been any more different to our genuine surprise.

I have the HP model and although I'm a bit disappointed by the performance and battery life, it's not all that bad because the price is considerably less then the Dell. I'm surprised that was not mentioned in the comparison. Hopefully HP will do something about the throttling if possible, because otherwise it's a great machine.

Spectre is cheaper, which should also be considered. I found its keyboard to be much more comfortable to type on than XPS's. No idea why they are rated equal. Are you used to Mac's keyboard?

I wouldn't pay nearly $1500 US for significant throttling issues experienced by the HP.

The Dell won't throttle in games and perform substantially better than HP. I'd get the 8305G model, which will be faster, cooler, quieter, and a better overall quality over the HP.

HP's PC engineering sucks.

Review states both laptops support Wacom pens - are you sure? I thought they were both N-Trig powered like Surfaces.

Also, does the HP not have socketed RAM (upgradable if remove tape)? It has been on the last few years 15" models (although 13" was soldered).

Agree the HP is disappointing especially considering they increased the thickness and redesigned cooling for the 2018 models.

They are N-Trig(Microsoft) based, but support the Wacom Bamboo Ink, which is a dual protocol pen. Not sure about the Dell, but the HP model comes with a pen in the box.

XPS uses Wacom AES 2.0, Spectre x360 uses N-Trig that is one version behind the latest from Microsoft Surface.

Spectre x360 15 has 2x SODIMM slots upgradable up to 64GB of RAM.

That is a monumental advantage over the Dell.

I read that the throttling and fan noise and warming becomes less if you set the CPU max to 99% in the BIOS for the HP. It then becomes a much better laptop.

Not to mention the price differnece is a big fail of the review imho. (or is it on puprose?)

I have Spectre for several months already and although I am a bit disappointed by fan noise it is a clear winner for me: 1500€ vs 2500€ here for the same UHD config.
