I bought one of these largely due to your review. so thanks :) One question is that my one has a hot spot on the right side of the palm rest just where my hand sits. Is there anything you suggest to help dissipate this or add on to protect against the discomfort (first world problem i know)

Hi, regarding hot point where you put your right hand, reason could be you are using an hard disk, that goes below that position. Solution could be using only a M.2 SSD/PCIe NVMe SSD instead of HDD/SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide. Other possibility, is to use a notebook cooler. Hope that helps.

Only the i5 SKUs are worth buying
I have checked thinkpad customize options and there is no options with i5 and RX 550.

Mat re: true about the hdd. Changing to an M.2 ssd would definitely help. I have an ssd as my c-drive for windows, and a hdd as d-drive for extra space. And I don't have your problem.

I can also highly recommend anyone with this machine to undervolt it with 100mv. I used Intel Xtu to do this and there are plenty of guides and videos out there to help you how to set i up. I saw a drastically decreasement in temperatures and much higher benchmarking scores after doing so.

Hi, I bought this PC because of your review (actually I went for an i5 CPU+discrete graphic)! Ever since I turned it on, the fan never stopped running. The noise is very disturbing and it doesn't allow me to work! Did anyone of you have the same problem? Is there something I can do to fix it? Or should I just return the PC as the fan is probably not working properly?

Did you update all your drivers?
Opening ThinkVantage will take care of that for you.

Mine is silent most of the time. Fan only spinning when processor is working. Booting up or opening a program for example will make the fan spin. But after a short time it will turn off again.

Also you should consider undervolting it with 100mv. This can be done with Intel XTU very easily. It will make the processor/computer run less hot - thereby less fan noise, better performance and better battery life
(and it is not dangerous. OVERvolting it will fry the chip, but undervolting does not harm the components). You can look more into this yourself on the internet. There are plenty of guides and explanations out there.

Why is E580 model with MIL-STD-810G military certification and E480 is NOT!? is this mistake in documentation ?

Is the BIOS updates causes dramatic performance loss as well E480?

I've been looking for a office laptop with some decent gaming performance, so is the E580 with i7-8550U worth to buy and will I have issues with it even if I'd undervolt it? Or is the i5-8250U version of the E580 with 8gt ram still better option?
Orrr should i go with the E570 that has i7-7500U and GTX 950M?..

Hello i performed an undervolt to the i7-8550u on this laptop (thinkpad e580 model 20KS0005AD) of -99.6 mV and the cinebench r15 multicore was 573 and single core 162, im quite happy with the results. shows how thermal throttling limits ur system.

I just bought this laptop. I was wondering if you could help me guide towards how to undervolt. What software did you use and what settings to change?

Did you try undervolting the gpu too??

Lenovo laptops are so bad. I have TP E580 Worst laptop ever. Terrible cooling Never buy laptops from this company
