Nintendo's 2017 update to the 2DS and 3DS portable gaming console line-up, the new 2DS XL, is arriving in North America and Europe on the 28th of July. The console will retail for US$150 and features the same internals as the 3DS XL with the 3D functionality removed.

The New 3DS & New 3DS XL uses IPS displays for both of its screens, while the 2DS XL only uses TN displays. The New 3DS XL has a 1700 mah battery and last 4 to 7 hours long or 6 to 10 hours if you turn the Wireless Off, while the New 2DS XL only last for 3 to 6 hours long like the Switch. The 3DS XL has 800 resolution, giving it a pixil density of 194 while the 2DS XL has a resolution of 400 giving it a pixel density of 97. The Super Stable 3D doesn't hurt your eyes and doesn't make you sick, and the Face-Tracking really works, you can move 120 to 140 degrees without losing the 3D effect, and its glasses-free 3D at that.

I purchased a new Galaxy 3DS in mid July. Both screens were TN.  >:(

Shah - Thank you for your comment. The source I had used for the specs (Digital Trends), had erroneously reported the screen resolution at 800 x 240. They also appear to have compared the battery with that in the smaller 3DS rather than the 3DS XL. I've updated the article to correct both of these mistakes.

Regarding the IPS panels on the new 3DS XL - Nintendo has been notoriously bad at being consistent with the screens used in the new 3DS XL line. Through out the entire lifetime, it has been a lottery on whether you get IPS screens or TN. On a Reddit "3DS_IPS_TN" enthusiast community who track the serial numbers identifiers of the new 3DS XL models in the NA reason, they have managed to identify:

So you're fairly likely to end up with dual TN panels on the new 3DS XL anyway.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the 3D functionality. No doubt that glasses free 3D is a cool feature when using it.

Feelfreetopanic - Unfortunately, most of the Galaxy versions in recent times appear to be dual TN.
