Title: HP Spectre x360 13 w023dx Convertible Review
Post by: Redaktion on October 20, 2016, 06:15:10
Best Spectre convertible yet. The 13-inch Spectre x360 series has received a full-blown refresh in time for Kaby Lake and the results are nothing short of impressive.

It is very unfortunate they decided to ditch the active stylus support, otherwise nice laptop.

This is close to the perfect laptop. Is it possible to test it with the razer core or Acer dock? HP crippled their tb3 in the past specifically not to work with egpus, so I think many people might be waiting for confirmation on the tb3 before ordering. If HP is still doing this to their customers, then people need to know.

Can you please test if it is possible to use the new spextre x360 with external Graphics, like Razer Core or Acer Graphics dock? I have been waiting for the "perfect" (for me) laptop for over a year and this may finally be it.

If this turns out to be compatible with eGPU I will probably buy it on release day (when it arrives in Sweden) and if it is not, well then I won't buy it at all.

Thanks in advance and thank you for notebookcheck, it is really awesome and I read it Daily!   :)

Where is the oled screen option? Why offer an upgrade on CPU/GPU, etc. and then ditch the premium screen option. Makes no sense.

100% agree. I was excited to see this latest Thunderbolt-equipped Spectre x360 because I like the previous generation so much. It was one of just a few non-MS convertibles with active stylus. But removal of active stylus removes it from my shopping list. :( Without active stylus I see no advantage over consumer Yoga, Dell or other any number of other convertibles (once they too get Thunderbolt).
Title: Future revisions?
Post by: Dominik on October 21, 2016, 01:24:25

where did you get this information? Do you know when these future revisions will be available? The stylus is a important criteria for me and I don't know if I should wait or get another convertible.

So the preformance of i7-7500u is just the same as 6500u or 5600u?

Please, could someone confirm it working with EGPUs? Thanks a lot in advance, it's the deciding factor in buying this beauty.

This reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/eGPU/comments/587xju/my_experience_with_the_razer_core_spectre_x360/ (https://www.reddit.com/r/eGPU/comments/587xju/my_experience_with_the_razer_core_spectre_x360/) notes "the new Spectre x360 work out-of-the-box with my Razer Core & Nvidia 1070".  This would be great as a previous test of the non-convertible Spectre by Dave Lee (6:20 into video) didn't work with the core https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOFZGCwoRmo (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BOFZGCwoRmo).  So, if the convertible does work with the core, that would be great.  It would also be a nice competitive feature over a laptop like the Yoga 910 which does not support Thunderbolt and the Razer Core.

Would it be possible to include the performance data from both the MacBook Pro 13 (no touchbar) and Macbook Pro 13 (touchbar, when it comes out) for comparison against the HP Spectre x360?  Would like to se how the lowest tier MacBook Pro compares, as well as the actual level of difference between this and the touchbar MBP.

Also, any information on when the 15-inch Kaby Lake will come out?  Hoping to order a new laptop within the next month, so any educated guesses will really help me make a better decision.

I'm thinking to buy one but only with OLED QHD 13" screen ... do you know when it will be ready for sale?
Thanks,
Balázs

Do you think the new case design will fix the screen cracking issues that plagued the previous version?

I picked up my Spectre x360 from Best Buy about 2 weeks and pretty much love it.  Great keyboard, precise touchpad, thin and lightweight, great screen (honestly, QHD would probably be overkill and needlessly drain battery at this size) and overall smooth experience.  The only minor complaint would be the excessive fan noise, even when doing non-intensive CPU tasks like browsing the web.

Quick question for Notebookcheck: do you have any recommended settings for calibrating the colors?  They seems just slightly warm, so if you have some finely tuned settings you'd like to share, please do so.  Thanks!

Got it two weeks ago with Samsung NVMe SM961 512GB 3200MB/s read 1700MB/s write, HP makes it even better.

I've enjoyed this laptop for almost 3 months now. Switched to the new 1TB 960evo from Samsung (easy). The NVME + KabyLake is noticeably faster than my prior Yoga 3 Pro i7.
The lack of a smart pen is HORRIBLE.  Does anyone have a workaround, or good aftermarket item that works at least pretty well?
