Title: Nvidia GeForce GTX 960M Review
Post by: Redaktion on March 12, 2015, 15:00:17
High-end or mainstream? While the GeForce GTX 980M and the GeForce GTX 970M are based on a completely new architecture compared to their predecessors, the GTX 960M is just a small update. Our review shows if the performance can still convince us.

Hi, I am curious about that Maximum VRAM in the table. There is stated that Maxwell 860/960 can only take up 2GB of VRAM, but you hav many reviews of notebooks here that have Maxwell 860m with 4GB ram ... where is true? Thank you ...

Hey, just my take that should be considered.

After looking up the 940M and GTX 950M and comparing the performance gap between the 840M and the 850M, I feel that in between the 940 and 950, something needs to fill in by releasing a GTX 945. Basically that is essentially Mobile Version of the GTX 750 that has 512 CUDA Cores, like how the 960/860/950/850Ms are versions of the 750 Ti.

Felt the performance gap between the 940 and 950 too big as how 840 is to 850.

I'd be curious about that too. Especially since they note that the 2gb RAM isn't quite enough on some games, the maxwell 4gb 860m might do better.

Excellent overview of BM's for these classes.  In the future, I would love to see a thermal test of some sort.  When I shop for a gaming notebook, I look for the best performance, least noise and lowest temps.  The main culprit of temps rising (thus noise) is the CPU/GPU.  This element of rating thermals would help me a lot when researching various manufacture offerings.  It will even let me pinpoint my search for my desired results in a gaming laptop.

Hello. Listen I love the benchmarks you guys do but I find this one slightly inconsistent. Reason being, you sometimes mix high settings at 1366x768 with same quality 1080p fps. I think each quality setting should have it's own set of resolutions. For instance, what if I wanna know how the 960m runs at 1080p on Crysis 3, say medium detail ? I appreciate what you guys do a lot, but maybe consider this in the future.

hi George,

we're starting to move to 1080p resolution for our High settings instead of 768p. Older games were done in 768p and will remain that way in the database.

There are versions in the market with 4gb vram. Can this help the performance or is it just marketing?
