Title: Acer Aspire V5-573G-54218G1Taii Notebook Review Update
Post by: Redaktion on August 11, 2014, 07:31:31
Maxwell Upgrade. The GeForce GTX 850M graphics core equips the Aspire with a considerable gaming performance. At the same time, the good battery life and the slim, elegant casing can be maintained. Whether Acer has designed the optimal all-round notebook will be shown in the following review.

Seems like you you can't! Unless you take foreign models via amazon (US and German). Or you can order from this shop: http://www.computeruniverse.net/en/ (http://www.computeruniverse.net/en/). It is a trusted shop. Best is to call them up for details. This way you get fairer prices, the actual German ones.

Be aware of the German keyboard and the need for a EU-UK power plug though.

I also purchased this laptop form computeruniverse. If you can live with german qwertz, it's the best you can buy for 700€.

PD. If anyone is considering this laptop, some things you should be aware:
Keboard keys are very thin, with short path. It takes a while to get used to.
Power button on the lateral. You can accidently hit it.. so it's best to disable auto shutdown.
Touchpad buttons are not very usable. Independent buttons would be way better.
Oficial Nvidia drivers need to be modded before instalation (inf).

That's all the cons folks.

I agree keyboard requires getting used to. My typing speed on the Acer is half it was on very old Compaq. But it is comparable to MacBook Pro.

On the other hand the display is very good. Color accuracy is one of the best and photos look amazing. It is real pleasure to work with this display.

I don't use buttons of touchpad. Instead I use gestures: short touch with one finger is left mouse button. Short touch with two fingers is right mouse button.

Power button on the side has one advantage: if you connect laptop to monitor, plug external mouse and keyboard, you can easily turn the laptop on without opening the lid.

@Megan
To install windows you will need a usb pendrive. There is no optical drive..
If you purchase it with linux, a driver cd will be included.
Be aware, the linux installed boots on commanad line. It's not user friendly like ubuntu.
Reinstalation of the OS is a must.

I've got the 750m version of this and really love the value for money proposition: nice screen for working and gaming and if you add an SSD MSATA great performance too, even on the i5.  I'm tempted to upgrade to the 850m version, how do the screens compare in a side to side comparison, would I regret the contrast and black reduction?

Hi thanks for the the review and tips to buy this from computer universe, however they only stock the 750m version. Any idea where to buy the 850m version in EU/UK? Thanks! :)

Ah I just found this on amazon.de, sorry I missed that in the other message. Does anyone know if I ordered this or the UK from amazon will I have to pay customs charges/import tax?

This seems like the best laptop with the best screen (IPS) by far in its price range! Thank you

For those of you wondering about the screen: The display on the updated model uses the exact same panel as the old model.
I'm having both in front of me right now. They get slightly different values (checked with an i1display pro), but nothing like the differences notebookcheck found. They look nearly identical. I think the differences are just down to manufacturing tolerances. I think they either got a lemon for this test or something wrong when measuring.

Here's what your  UK-Government  (http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/customs/post/buying.htm#2) has to say about this issue:

QuoteIf you're ordering or sending purchased goods (other than alcohol and tobacco) to the UK from another EU country then it's just like shopping in the UK:
there is no Customs Duty payable
there is no import VAT payable, unless you're ordering or sending purchased goods from one of the EU 'Special Territories' and if the value of the goods is £15 or more, however from 1 April 2012 all merchandise sent to the UK from the Channel Islands is subject to VAT - see below
there is no Excise Duty to pay

Be aware of the difference in keyboard layouts though. Additionally for UK-customers you have to use an adapter for the different power plugs.

How do they measure watt usage? The battery is 53 WH. Wifi test lasts around 5.5 hours, doesn´t that translate into around 10 watt power consumption? Still the idle/average-maximum test consumption is 11-17 watt. I would expect wifi test to require more power than idling; maybe someone here has done their own power testing?

I have this laptop for almost a year. It has a good screen and good performance, but its keyboard is fucked up with famous double characters issue. Also its battery died completely, it won't turn even turn on when on battery. I will send it to the warranty center for battery replacement.

Overall I won't continue to use this one. I'm very tired from its fucked up keyboard.
