Contingency plan. Business notebooks don't have to be expensive, as we've seen in the past. Fujitsu tries to gain a foothold in the lower price bracket with the Lifebook A544. How successful is the new notebook?

I find this article very accurate regarding the A544 in this spec. My A544 was returned to Fujitsu because of the touchpad. I agree 'clicking' was a hit or miss affair making, it made 'cut and paste' actions rather frustrating. The top right side of my touchpad never clicked in Win8.1 however if you installed Win7, it worked perfectly. It even worked (although with little accuracy) with Win 8.1 default drivers.
Problem progressed to Fugitsu in Germany but according to them their Synaptic 8.1 drivers do not have a problem. Would be interesting if others could try installing Win7, or change to the default Microsoft PS/2 driver and see if their touchpad 'click' problems continue. I reckon Fujitsu do have an issue with their Win 8.1 Synaptic driver.
If they could sort that out, I believe this to be the best value for money laptop at the present time.

I totally agree with the details explained here. Lifebook A544 is a decent stuff as compared to other brand products with similar specs. Yes, The touch panel isn't that perfect or great... I too thought of returning my Laptop...But Friends this Laptop is a steal-deal for budget consious consumers(Business/Students). Also has a few important features like the USB charging even when switched off, LED indicators, Intel Wireless N-7260 + Bluetooth 4.0, Super fast RAM..
CONCLUSION: FINE Product with good h/w specs

I have now gotten used to the trackpad, and it's actually excellent. The trick is to forego any clicking and get acquainted with multi tapping on modern touchpads. In Ubuntu, settings by default are:
* Single and double taps are single and double clicks
* Tap with two fingers is right click
* You can scroll vertical and horizontally by using two fingers
* Dragging anything: double tap, but the second tap you keep the finger on the trackpad
Performance is awesome. I have since upgraded mine to 16GB up from the original 8GB as I do a lot of virtualisation. VT-X extensions work perfectly, for those who also virtualise. I can't get the battery to last for 6 hours though, 3 hours tops.
I upgrade this notebook with Kingston hyperx Fury SSD 240 gb but this SATA3 drive work only in SATA 2 mode 3gb/s on this junk 8 serieschipset. Not bad NB for this price but some small disadvantages positioned it this solid book in low segment.
