Title: Review Update Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p (GT 755M SLI) Notebook
Post by: Redaktion on December 11, 2013, 05:35:40
Power boost. Lenovo has enhanced the graphics performance of its successful IdeaPad Y510p. The device is now available with either a GeForce GT 750M (SLI) or a GeForce GT 755M (SLI). We grabbed the brand new dual-GPU version and compared its performance with genuine high-end models.

Regarding Optimus - it is available in the laptop, but in order to use it, one should take out the second video adapter from the ultrabay. It would be interesting to see the battery runtime in this case.

Hi, I intent to buy this laptop, but I'd love to have SSD + HDD combination. I thought that Y510 has mSATA slot, but you said it's no mSATA :) I googled it's some NGFF SSD, but I was unable to find any SSDs with this interface. Could somebody please advice where to buy some? With shipping to EU, please ;) Thanks, Rudo

Great machine!! You need an ngff m.2 ssd(there's two types). From this year you can buy one. Such as on e-bay you can choose from 64-256gb. Just you have throw out the 8 or 24gb ssd, if you don't have a hibrid hdd. Sy for my English.

Technically its around 1500$ on lenovos website, but it's just a marketingn strategy, because it's basically a permanent sale on it 365 days of the year at 1200$ So it's really a extraordinary value

As good as the power house in this laptop is the touch pad sucks so bad it's beyond tolerable and even beyond terrible. Mine runs with the ELAN driver. I tried to install a driver by Synaptics which was supposed to resolve the issues but it wasn't compatible. If I hadn't spent so much money on it I would have smashed it against the wall already.

It randomly clicks, it doesn't when it's supposed to and highlights s*** (in word or even files in folders for example) which then disappear or get moved into oblivion. It's almost impossible to precisely click a specific spot on the screen because the buttons are integrated into the touch pad and you can't exempt that button area from being touch sensitive besides the fact that it's already super un-precise as it is already. Each time i need to the cursors a certain spot in a text I get anxiety to use the touch pad because placing the cursor between to letters is like threading a needle while wearing a pair of boxing gloves.

 >:(The customer service on lenovo is horrible, they took one hour and a bit to answer my call, because they had cancelled my transaction, there was a mistake on the charges and the CSR tried to blame it on me. Took 4 calls to solve it.
They took a month and a half, from the moment I ordered to the moment it was shipped.
-I set the laptop to never go to sleep/turn off when connected to do nothing when I close the lid, still, sometimes I close the lid and it goes to sleep, sometimes it only stops the music, and sometimes it downright turns off, and the settings are set not to.

-It crashes(not very often) when trying to go out of the games(all, not just one)

-There is something wrong with the Bluetooth, it suddenly simply dissapeared, no explanation, no prompt to uninstall or anything, it simply... Poof... vanished, no program, no data, no nothing, I had to re-download the driver from the lenovo web... and suddenly, two weeks later... It happened again, I had to download the driver, once again.

-The mouse is awful, when you try to click any button it also moves, so clicking a link or anything else is a pain and it is not really sensitive, I have to hit it relatively hard so that it detects my click(when I don't use the actuall button)

-Just a few months after it came(a few days ago) I tried to turn the lap on and there was an error screen and it restarted and it took like ten minutes for it to get fully functional again, and had to reset Yandex Browser because it would not play java or flash after that.

Graphics are awesome and it runs next gen games flawlessly(with the exception mentioned above) I played COD Ghosts in ultra, and ESO Online in Very High and it goes fine(Thief only in high though)

Another downgrade, trying to buy Ultrabay is a pain, they don't have the items online and you need to call the pieces centre in your country to CHECK, if you are lucky enough for them to have it

So overall, I wouldn't recommend this laptop or company for all that matters, although is a good price, it is much of a hassle and a lot of failures

i completed four laptops in the past for playing games, my experience, i do not recommend you guys to focus to laptop gaming. it's very different between laptop gaming and Desktop,

now, i'm using desktop for gaming my specs is : CPU i7-4770K ram 16G, VGA nividia Gigabyte GTX770 oc (4G),  UPS 850W, monitor 27" benQ Fhd IPS, window 8.1 licence, it's very very smooth and it makes me happy all the time using its, otherwise, my brain deleted the laptop gaming out, and heading to get a new VGA soon from such as AMD R9 290x... cheers,

Here's a quick question. Does it have a port for a ssd? I have one sitting in a ps3 atm and would like to put it in this laptop if it's possible?

Sometimes you guys are too precious. I just picked up the Lenovo for less than $1000. Bang for buck it kills other manufacturers. So the touchpad is crap. But does any serious gamer use one?

What is the performance of i5 and 2 GPU version in games? Is it better to buy this version or i7 and single GPU version?
