A classic. The business convertible HP EliteBook 2760p has its roots in the HP Compaq 2710p, which debuted back in 2007. But while HP continually updated the internal components, the chassis remained largely unchanged. How well was HP able to keep the system up-to-date and is it still a viable choice in 2013?

Not sure where you acquired this machine, but this model is out of production as far as I know -- HP's refurb store has even run out of them. A 2770p almost reached production, but was shelved -- a few prototypes made it to ebay -- seems HP lost faith in this platform when Win8 arrived. The current convertible lacks backward compatibility with all oif the previous peripherals etc, which to me is a shame -- I'd buy a 2780p or whatever in a heartbeat, having loved the 2710p and 2740p.
I bought this pc in 2011, still works super smooth despite my rough handling of the laptop. Now I am searching for new laptop (not that I have in issue with this one, still using it!). Can anyone give me some recommendations that are similar to the 2760p?

You can get a 2760p used for about $300, for example on Amazon. I did that. With 12 G RAM and the I5 processor at 2.5 Ghz, it is as fast as I can imagine. It does, however, run much hotter than reported in this review.
I have one of these and am very pleased with it --- EXCEPT --- the I5 processor runs very hot usually 60s and 70s C, but frequently reaching 80s and 90s C and sometimes shutting down because of the heat.
Most articles I have read report much lower temps. This is the only article I have seen that corresponds to my experience. Are the other articles just wrong, or do we have unusually hot running machines?
