IPS for everyone. It is like witchcraft: Reviewers and readers have complained about poor TN panels in Acer's multimedia notebooks for years. Now we got hold a 650 Euro model with a downright fantastic FullHD IPS display, which is even matte. Should you buy before it's gone?

In all documentation I could find, it seems the BIOS on the Aspire V3 supports setting a single HDD password. What is also worrisome, is that there are a number of sites that show how to bypass the HDD password (!!) by using the code that you get after 3 incorrect entries: http://pcmediks.blogspot.nl/2010/11/how-to-remove-hdd-user-password-in-acer.html
In a correct ATA security feature set implementation, there should be two hard drive passwords (master and user). If you forget both, there is not much that you can do. This is what I prefer, especially for the self-encrypting SSDs like the Intel 520 and the Samsung 840 Pro.
Do you know if it's possible to get the Acer V3 to do correct ATA security?
It almost sounds like the Acer BIOS secretly sets the ATA master password, and uses this for the backdoor unlock. I would want to disable this completely. If you have any information on this, that would be awesome.
Can you think that we can change the CD by a caddy to put a ssd ?
