Title: TSMC to implement gate-all-around (GAAFET) transistors on the 2 nm nodes by 2023
Post by: Redaktion on September 22, 2020, 17:07:00
TSMC surprised everyone when it announced that its 3 nm nodes will not use GAAFET transistors. Meanwhile, the Taiwanese foundries decided to speed up the release of the 2 nm nodes, which will finally adopt the GAAFET design. Still, the N2 nodes will only become operational by mid-2023, allowing Samsung to get the edge with its 3 nm GAAFET nodes by late 2021. Despite this advantage, TSMC is confident that Samsung will not get too many orders for the 3 nm node due to low yields.

TSMC seems to be advancing really well in shrinking the node & is doing commercially quite well too. This has proved beneficial for Apple as well & their partnership has reached a new high with this 5-year 2nm deal.
The question now is will Apple help the Hsinchu-based company to stay free from the clutches of an expansionist neighbour, who is just itching to engulf this island ?

Yes. Apple is sending an army unit armed (with iPhones) to fight Chinese army.

Quite funny, but in all seriousness I think he is saying that Apple should support Taiwan in defending itself from China as Apple makes tons of profit because of them. They get SoCs made by TSMC, they have some display panel collaborations going on with AU Optronics (Taiwanese) & their contract manufacturers Foxconn, Pegatron & Wistron are from Taiwan too.
So, Apple should mobilise the US gov in supporting the Taiwanese government so they can defend their sovereignity & freedom from China.
