Title: Rocket League players must use an Epic Games account to access the game; Psyonix removes Quick Play in UI overhaul
Post by: Redaktion on September 17, 2020, 14:48:27
An Epic Games account is now a requirement to play Rocket League, as of the latest update for the game. There is now no way to play Rocket League without having an Epic Games account, and Epic Games will happily break data protection regulations to get you to create one. Psyonix has overhauled the UI too, while removing the quick play button in the process.

Wow, that new UI is terrible. Everything requires more clicks, it doesn't remember which game mode you're in, requiring conscious effort in joining a new game after finishing rather than just pressing either "quick play" or double-pressing A in the post-game lobby. Ridiculously bad UX design.

Also, people who were banned from Epic are having their Steam accounts connected to their banned Epic accounts resulting in them no longer being able to play. In other words they're being banned from playing a game they bought on Steam by Epic. Also f*** your captcha. I'll literally never comment here again because of it so thanks for that.

Banned from what? From RL? I mean, if you managed to get banned from RL in the first place, isn't that just fair, that you're no longer able to use another account to circumvent the ban? Sounds perfectly fine to me. If you got a permanent ban, you did something to deserve it.

Also, there's no captcha if you register to comment.

No Valantar he is saying he got banned on EPIC before they had rocket league. And when psyonix forced you to sign in to epic on steam to play the game the ban also made it so that they banned him from playing rocket league even though rocket league had nothing to do with the ban at all because it was on a whole new platform where he might have actually not broken any rules at all. But now he cannot play RL either because of a ban he had on epic games that did not in any way involve rocket league.

Well that sucks. My kids play RL and I have account creation blocked on the switch for their accounts as they are younger and do not need companies, such as, Epic and Ubisoft knowing about them.

Sadly, this round of updates is likely to cause me to remove the game entirely as the switch also lost split screen play locally which we did as a family a lot! We were very unhappy to see that missing last Friday night and chose to play other games instead.

You should be able to play offline without an epic games account. You should be able to play online with a "guest" account, but not ranked, and they need to add the quickplay button back.  I didn't like it at first, but after about a week, quickplay button is 10x better than manually going through and starting a game.

The article left out that the update screwed up split screen on the Switch. Now it's not available so my son and I can't play RL together anymore :(
