Asus recently decided to enable support for all four generations of Ryzen processors on its ASUS ROG Strix X570 motherboard. This means that everything from 2017's budget Ryzen 3 1200 to upcoming Ryzen 4000 parts will be compatible, thanks to a generous 256 Mb BIOS chip.

PCIE 4 only works with 3000 CPUs, so contrary to what's written in the article users do have to replace their CPU if they want to leverage PCIE4 support.
Why spend >300€ on a board tu put a ryzen 1000 on it ??

Maybe professionals can use it for debugging different CPUs without having to change motherboards every time? Not everyone uses computers just to play fortnite and watch youtube.
Pretty much useless feature, and it's not because of the 256mb BIOS, even the dirt cheap B550M-HDV had 256mb
I can see the appeal. I'm still on my 1600 and I'd consider upgrading to this board from my buggy first gen board and then get a 4k series processor once they launch and all the kinks are worked out
I think asus released it probably because they were pissed because amd changed their decision on motherboard support or they hired another intern to write bios code.
Every MSI MAX 400 series board has a 32MB (256 Mbit) bios chip. Asus x470 boards have 32MB. Every gigabyte x570 board has 16MB BIOS chip, so this wasn't about bios chip rom size, ever.
And if you spend several hundred dollars on a mobo hoping to get its features on your 1600 cpu, you're out of luck, as another commenter said.

This is a very rational reason to consider this path. :)
