Title: Lenovo ThinkPad T490: The WQHD HDR panel convinces in the test, but makes only limited sense in an office laptop

As already the ThinkPad X1 Extreme before it, now the 14-inch ThinkPad T490 also gets a higher resolution WQHD panel with 100% AdobeRGB color space coverage. The excellent image quality is countered by a reflective display surface and an increased power consumption.

HDR without 10-bit or any DisplayHDR certification is not true HDR.

The article incorrectly states, "In contrast to other manufacturers such as Dell or HP, Lenovo does not offer any option to modify the color space or color profile. So as long as you work in the AdobeRGB color space, everything is okay, but as soon as you work with sRGB files, there are some high color deviations".

Lenovo supplies the Intel Graphics Control Panel software, which allows for custom color profiles.  As-is, due to the high Adobe RGB coverage, the HDR panel is often color-over-saturated with non-color-managed applications like the web, video-streaming etc.  I was easily able to set up a custom profile for non-color-managed sources, although it does take a little trial-and-error.  I saved the original, calibrated profile for Photoshop.  But you're right, it would be preferable for Lenovo to provide such profiles or explain the availability of the software, which is easy to use without a colorimeter for this purpose.
