Title: Intel Comet Lake-U in Review: Complicated name and not really faster
Post by: Redaktion on August 21, 2019, 15:03:21
Comet Lake-U is the successor to the current Whiskey Lake-U CPUs from Intel. However, the new models are still manufactured in the familiar 14nm process. We checked the performance of the new Core i7 with a pre-production unit, but the results are rather sobering.

Thank you for the article and for explaining the "differences". Essentially, Comet Lake is a rebadged Whiskey Lake except with slightly faster clock speeds. Very disappointing from Intel. You weren't scathing enough in this article, but chalk that up to professionalism.

So if Comet Lake-U is just a repackaged Whiskey Lake-U with even slight improvements being conditional, then which would you suggest for someone looking to replace a 5-year old laptop?

If I understood this correctly, Comet Lake draws more power yet is no more efficient than Whiskey Lake. Even putting the 6-core chip aside, wouldn't Whiskey Lake still be the better choice for battery life, especially in an ultrabook? Not to mention it'll be cheaper and thus the better value?
