Nvidia has announced that a number of Pascal-based graphics cards will soon be enabled to utilize DirectX ray tracing (DXR). GeForce GTX 1060 6 GB cards and higher will receive a Game Ready Driver update, which is currently expected in April, to allow their users to enjoy limited ray tracing technology in certain games.

While this sounds like a cool feature to be added to the older lineup of Pascal cards, it makes me wonder what practical use this can have when it comes to gaming - aren't the current ray traced games taking a large performance hit already on the ray traced optimised Turing architecture, so it's only gonna mean even lower ray tracing performance for this old Pascal lineup. I just wonder how this can have any meaningful practical application given it would be so slow - maybe some future games will utilise only a very small amount of ray tracing that Pascal cards could deal with? I'm not sure I can see the value in this update.
Does it include 1060 Max Q too?
