A patent has been unearthed that has led some media outlets to speculate that Sony could be planning on delivering a PlayStation 5 console offering backwards compatibility. The patent for "remastering by emulation" was filed on November 22, 2016 by Sony Interactive Entertainment America LLC. However, some commentators have argued that the patent simply covers a method of sprucing up dated software.
