Pioneering. One of the hotly debated devices from Apple's line-up has been updated: The MacBook 12 omits non-essential features and focuses on highest portability. Fan, many interfaces, a mechanical touchpad, a long key travel: "You don't need that."

So many cons and still 91%? ???
Are you fucking serious?
480p webcam, 1 USB C, at that price point, and it gets a 91%? Please have some self-respect for the rating system.
Are you serious? You give this thing 91%?
You said that "the short key travel causes typing errors again and again" and you gave the keyboard 85%, what am I reading? Also, how did you decide that I don't need the interfaces?
This rating is ridiculous and unprofessional. I admire all the data and tests you've conducted, but you guys really need to reconsider the rating.
Nice review. It's a slight improvement over last year's model (as reflected in the score- the 2015 model, I believe, received a 90%).
The MacBook is a much more restraint product than something like the Surface Pro (which tries to do too much while ending up with a lot of unresolved issues of past Surfaces). Apple seems to embrace and made a product that maximizes most of its limitation. It's probably one of the most Apple-like device in recent years which is why it brings a lot of huffing and puffing from those who don't quite get it. Although it's not something I'd buy, I envy those who could buy, work and live with such a device.
Average based off of ratings on the bottom = 78%
Overall rating = 91%
Am I missing something?
Tests - commendable, thorough.
Rating - biased, unprofessional
To article writer: Kudos for the excellent and thoroughly detailed review. But please go and look up the rating system again.
Or are you that blatantly on Apple's payroll. Severely disappointed by fanboy-like rating.
Our rating is a combination of the different measurements and got nearly not subjective influence (other than some keyboard and trackpad subratings). The low port rating is not influencing the weighted subnotebook rating that much and is improved by the very good wifi performance.
We can always bet on comments that we are bought by apple (although they never advertised directly with us and e.g. we had to buy this sample ourselfs). The Macbook has an excellent screen, body, trackpad, heat and also audio (and of course noise) excell. the single usb-c, 420p webcam and the good keyboard (its not bad) keep it just from hitten an even better score. I would recommend you guys looking at a unit in store yourself or give us some good feedback what we rated / tested wrong. That you guys dont like Apple is clear to us.
Oh and I will remove postings that are just offensive and dont any constructive critis. We are happy to discuss our rating and details on the test. But please keep the tone serious.
Systematically biased. Cannot believe 91% over surface pro. It is a joke.
I believe that your ratings are off.
Touch screens and detachable keyboards have become the norm for devices of that size. The macbook is simply lacking behind in modern user requirements. You display and keyboard rating for devices in this category should take this into account.
Heters gonna hate. Yea the keyboard is iffy and one port is not enough. Type-A is available on devices just as thin. It really doesn't matter when Apple makes the best notebooks aside from gaming hands down. Anyone who buys a surface is an idiot unless you actually draw on it.
Rating for the keyboard of Macbook: 91%
Rating for the keyboard of XPS13: 89%
Rating for the keyboard of Razer Blade Stealth: 65%
NBC seriously? I know this is not iverge right?
Did Apple company pay you for this rating ?
perfect notebook for faggots
