Saying that this revives the 2D Metroidvania shows a wild ignorance of the genre.

Kotama & the Academy Citadel released in January. Fatal Claw released in August. Both Possessor(s) and Hollow Knight: Silksong released last year, with Silksong being one of the few games that actually challenged Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's supremacy. Going back even further, there's Awaken - Astral Blade in 2024, Afterimage in 2023, Frontier Hunter in 2024, Blasphemous 2 in 2023, and a ton of others, like Toziuha Night, Momodora, Wonder Labyrinth, Minoria, etc.

Your headline is like saying Pokemon Winds & Waves "revives the creature collector genre" when everyone has spent the last two years talking about Palworld.
