Price is high not only because of high memory prices (tho 32 GB don't weight in that much), but mainly because of economies of scale.
A while back Dave2D already compared a repairable Framework laptop to a much cheaper one. But in the end, the more competition there is, the better.
If you care about using this laptop for AI extensively, know that with 32 GB RAM+VRAM and with current SOTA AI LLM Qwen3.6-35B-A3B model and its lowest usable quant, you will be restricted to about this amount of context:

I get the whole "repairability" thing but Lenovo has stepped up their game with user-repairability and I can't see paying for this when I can just get a ThinkPad T14 gen 7 with a 10/10 ifixit repairability score and 3yr on-site warranty repair.
My gawd, the way they handle driver installation process though. That is the future. Makes other manufacturers look like they're stuck in the stone age by comparison.
The 700+ nit brightness matte IPS panel is impressive too.
But yeah, agreed a bit on heavy side.
I hope they can survive the current economic climate and don't go down under like many small businesses are. Because atm, it's not quite there yet for me but if they can sought out better supply / availability for 3rd gen and then work on better pricing for 4th gen, I may seriously start to consider them soon and I don't even care for sustainability or repairability much.

I don't think this is possible on a laptop panel without going OLED. At the rate they're improving though, it would not surprise me if we start seeing custom oled no pwm no dithering panels from them in the coming years.

Alright, you spent all that time writing that, but didn't bother to check what Pantherlake actually supports? Notebookcheck author made a mistake. On Framework, it runs at LPDDR5-7466. That's 119GB/s theoretical maximum.
