Title: Led by GTA 6 Ultimate Edition pre-orders, PS Store buyers prefer high-priced digital games
Post by: Redaktion on July 21, 2026, 23:00:31
The top-selling PlayStation Store titles demand more than $60. With the $100 GTA 6 Ultimate Edition ranking first, buyers are finding bonus content too tempting. Digital games are more profitable for publishers than PS5 discs, and Deluxe versions are particularly cost-effective.

PS Store buyers prefer high-priced digital GAME, singular. GTA6 is going to be the gaming release of the decade, it's not just a release it's an event. People are hyped enough they're willing to splash out on the "best" version.

Companies would be foolish to assume this is going to be the case across the market.

It's data analysis 101 to recognize and not include outliers that skew the data. GTA 6 is one such outlier pushed to its extreme. Users don't prefer only deluxe digital games. People preferred the Ultimate Edition of GTA 6 specifically. Stereotyping an entire user-base based on one data point is stupid at best and malicious at worst. If your goal was to ragebait people into leaning harder into demanding physical games, this is a genuinely fantastic job. If you wrote this article unironically, it's not too late to learn from this mistake.

To add to this point, there is another attempt at mis-representing data and the inference. Even if digital games seem preferred over physical disc, there could be multiple reasons for that result:

Nobody campaigning for physical media is asking for digital editions to be discontinued, but articles like this one do not provide the same courtesy in return.

Rockstar (and Sony's cut) will get it's $80 from me, I won't pay a penny into GTA Online, and I guess that pays for the 15+ years development of this game?  Seems fair.  I haven't bought physical media in decades, and it would be absurd to start doing so.
