Title: “What’s the point of a PlayStation 6 anyway?” – Reddit discussion goes viral
Post by: Redaktion on July 07, 2026, 14:15:42
Following Sony's announced end to disc-based releases, a Reddit discussion has fundamentally called the PlayStation 6 into question. Many fans see the shift to purely digital games as the decisive break from the traditional console, though not everyone shares this view.

I find it mildly amusing how people are having a meltdown over going all digital but when Sony transitioned from PS3 to PS4 era and started charging for online .. it was radio silence crickets.

Whether you like disc ownership or not. One thing is certain, the future is portable and disc drives tend to fail faster and draw more power. So it's a no go in that area and for the best going digital there.

For the first time in my life I agree with a Reddit post 🤣
Sony is scummy not producing physical software and just recently eliminated 500+ movies from owners that already paid for them so what's to stop them from doing the same with your game library , the meme of " you will own nothing and like it" is becoming true .
Nintendo is going to kill any other hardware maker if they continue producing physical software
Will never buy a all digital console, screw that and the greedy corpos for implementing this , this is the beginning of the end for some of the bigger console makers

I don't see the huge deal. A vast majority of players have been buying digital games for years now. We already lose all of our PS Plus games if we lapse our subscription. I don't see a huge difference here.
