Title: Steam Machine: Fans praise new reservation system – but one group is left out
Post by: Redaktion on June 23, 2026, 13:53:55
Valve's new reservation system is designed to make the Steam Machine launch more orderly and fair. The approach has gone down well with the community – but the account requirements completely exclude one group of potential buyers.

Why is that an issue?
New customers can wait until availability is less constrained. A lot of veteran customers will have to wait too, so... Shrug.

Alternatively, they can buy or build a similar HW small-PC and use SteamOS.
I see no issue.

The fact that a reservation queue is needed in the first place?

It's a perception issue. People tend to overhype anything that Valve does as a whole.

Nobody would be bothered much if this was some small Chinese Kickstarter project doing it but Valve is acting like this when they're a multi billion $ company with decades of experience.

Besides, do measures ever work? Every year, scalpers still somehow manage to bypass the system and resell en masse.
