Behind the scenes, however, a brutal austerity course is raging, which is why the future of the traditional Opel brand is now being strategically and closely intertwined with Stellantis partner Leapmotor from China.

Previous generations already used Chinese engines for a decade: the 1.0 and 1.5 petrol engines found in everything from the small Opel Karl and Adam to the heavy Insignia are designed and built by SAIC.

Are you sure about that? The internet says it used GM engines only.
