GitHub Copilot switched to token-based billing on June 1 for 4.7 million paid subscribers. Flat-rate subscriptions are out, AI Credits are in, and agentic users face the steepest cost increases.

with the way things stand and AI being that cheap, companies are finding reasons to retrench staff. hopefully with the 10x increase in AI cost and potentially more in the future, companies would be more willing to keep staff than to cost cut and retrench because AI can do what a human can at a fraction of the cost.
