Plex will raise the price of its Lifetime Plex Pass from $249.99 to $749.99 on July 1, 2026, while keeping monthly and annual subscriptions unchanged at $6.99 and $69.99. The company says the increase reflects the service's long-term value, but users have criticized the steep hike as a move that makes recurring subscriptions far more attractive.

Just use Jellyfin instead. It has everything Plex does, but it's free.

Used Plex for a while, but moved to using Jellyfin years ago as it suits my needs and works great with Intel's QSV. Plex went down the bloatware path a while ago, and definitely made decisions based on business needs rather than its users', this is really the last nail in the coffin.
