Title: Auteur typewriter combines e-ink display with mechanical keyboard
Post by: Redaktion on May 05, 2026, 16:07:57
A typewriter with an e-ink display and mechanical keyboard – Auteur aims to make writing texts without distractions more comfortable. With an integrated battery and a USB-C port for charging, the typewriter should also be suitable for on the go.

Over 6 hours was tested on a three board prototype with zero latency and an SSD. The final AUTEUR device will feature internal eMMC and a custom PCB eliminating a third of current consumption. Weight is intentional.

a third, so it's still less than 10 hours?

It's possible, constant refresh is quite taxing on power consumption. I won't be able to say for certain until after my talk with Soldered next week and testing on the consolidated board. I know everyone thinks of e-ink as free but that's for static display purposes more than always on/instant refresh. I would rather under promise, over deliver on battery life once the final device is assembled.
