Title: Steam Controller: The current solution to the $99 gamepad’s biggest problem
Post by: Redaktion on April 29, 2026, 13:15:02
The new Steam Controller costs $99, but it is closely tied to Steam Input. This could cause problems with Game Pass titles in particular. Possible solutions are already being discussed on Reddit.

Clickbait. This is not a problem, non steam games simply won't have steam features, the gamepad will work normally just as well... Just like any other controller would.

Actually the reviewers have already discovered that's not true. The controller outside of Steam shows up as a mouse and only the trackpads function. If you try to play a game from a different launcher, the controller either doesn't work or you can only control the cursor. The controller requires Steam Input to function properly.
