E-commerce giant Amazon has just acquired Swiss delivery robot start-up Rivr, known for its autonomous delivery robots. The goal is total automation through robotics and AI, further streamlining Amazon's delivery operations and cutting down on costs. Meanwhile, former Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has bigger ideas.

Quotereplace delivery workers soon

I don't get that impression. Amazon still isn't routinely making UAS (drones) deliveries across its markets after nearly a decade of investment.

Also, note the video shows the robot being driven to its location. The notion that a robot that easily and quickly navigate the unstructured pathway to an address delivery point would still need to be manually driven to its location casts doubt on its autonomous capabilities. Not to mention the robots are likely to be expensive to repair and, unlike human works, can't self-heal.
