QuoteLCD) with thick glossy coating

So why the gloss? Like for contrast?
Well, there are matte matrices with a sufficient amount of contrast. Who then is a "solar panel" for, if it has to be used in a darkened room?

The thick glossy coating is from the Gorilla glass protective layer I suspect, which makes sense since this is a rugged unit. I agree that the reflections could be quite distracting when the screen is hit by direct light.
