Just too expensive. They really should start this around $1600, not closer to $2400 (outside of having 128GB of RAM). Strix Halo just isn't growing AMD's market share, and it'll stay that way while it remains sky-high in price.
Can we get details on storage configuration asap? Two full size 2280s would put this into its own niche
This would have been nice when Strix Halo and its RDNA3.5 iGPU architecture was fresh. Now RDNA4 exists and can finally do proper hardware ML-based upscaling. Strix Halo' RDNA3.5 can't do that. Not sure I'd buy any new RDNA3.5 hardware anymore. For AI / LLM inferencing and fitting the bigger/smarter LLMs, Strix Halo' 128 GB are good and required, if this laptop supports 128 GB RAM, that is.
Again, think about it: This is a gaming laptop that can't to DLSS-like quality upscaling (only RDNA4 architecture GPUs can do this and they exist only as dedicated GPU cards).
@opckieran, indeed.
I'm not surprised. It is the AMD-way to charge 5% less than Nvidia. It's just $100 less than some RTX 5060 laptops.
But at this price range you can get a ThinkPad with Panther Lake with longer battery life, and not that much of a performance drop (when gaming on battery).
This does look like it has a fairly robust cooling solution though. Just looking at its weight and size of the ventilation grill.
@I don't think so, I guess you could install steamOS on this thing if you really want better upscaling as they've made significant improvements there to RT performance in recent Linux patches.
It's kind of interesting how many OEMs are advertising quiet @ 22 dB operation this year for their new laptops. I wonder what has changed.

It'll have like 10 in stock and then sell out for months just like their z2 extreme handhelds. AMDs marketing dept will call it a resounding success. Their focus and bread & butter will continue to be serving the server class and semi-custom silicon business (aka Sony/Samsung, etc).
I don't expect Intel's availability to be great either but at least with them, you know in 8-9 months, by the end of the year they will eventually ramp up the volume...
Why they stop using IPS and put OLED everywhere. We need IPS version!!!
