What do you mean by "more GPU-oriented tasks"?, the Radeon 890M isn't exactly fast or much faster than the 4-core Panther Lake iGPU (notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html: Time Spy: 3400 vs 3000 for the 4-core Panther Lake iGPU) and the Radeon 890M (RDNA3.5) doesn't have hardware ML-based, DLSS-like, upscaling. You decide if you want to spend money on a non-hardware-ML-supporting iGPU at this point. RDNA4 is out, but not for iGPUs this year.
Same arch, but the 355 APU has only 4 Xe-Cores cores and the Arc B390 has 12, and 12 cores make it ~2.4 times faster (7043 vs 2951) (it's only 1.59 times faster at the 720p resolution, because it's probably not GPU-bound).

The battery life on these lower power limit panther lakes with less CPU cores (4+4 cluster) is pretty incredible tho™.
It would be interesting to see if they make something like this later for handhelds but with full 12 Xe3 igpu cores enabled.

If they don't make something with more than 4 Xe cores then it wouldn't be faster than Radeon iGPU (but it would have hw ML based upscaling) and the amount of people who would want to upgrade wouldn't be big. While the 12 core B390 power scales really well down to 20-30W, I think for handhelds 10-15W would be more ideal (=smaller device) and I wonder if the B390 can go down to 10-15W and how its power efficiency would be compared to 20W. Otherwise, maybe an 8 Xe cores APU would fit better?
