Title: Vera C. Rubin Observatory has spotted an asteroid spinning at record speed
Post by: Redaktion on January 09, 2026, 15:12:31
The Vera C. Rubin Observatory has discovered an asteroid spinning at record speed. But while this is a new record for its category, this celestial object remains very mysterious and further studies will need to be conducted.

Is it perhaps the case that these celestial bodies are the denser cores of initally larger asteroids which shed their bodies through high rotational speeds? If so, their increasing density would have a similar effect to a figure skater tucking in to spin faster, no?
