Title: Lenovo Yoga Pro 9 16IAH10 RTX 5050 review: Not the best configuration to get
Post by: Redaktion on December 24, 2025, 03:55:19
The Yoga Pro 9 16 with GeForce RTX 5050 graphics is cheaper, cooler, and generally quieter than its more expensive RTX 5060 or 5070 options. Unfortunately, at almost $1800 retail, the system isn't that much less expensive than the higher-end configurations.

Since this is not a gaming-focused laptop, but due to the high price and the "Pro" in the product name, all I'm gonna way is that the newest games may not run as well as you expect, because of the 8 GB VRAM:

As more and more people upgrade to the PS5, more and more AAA games, that come out, may not run well on 8 GB VRAM, even in 1080p.

But why are 8 GB VRAM such an interesting limit?
Big AAA games are often developed for consoles first and the PS5 has 16 GB VRAM. Yes, unlike in a PC, some of it is used by the OS, but not 8 GB, more like 4 GB, and so it becomes 8 GB VRAM dGPU vs 12 GB VRAM. I would not even blame the game developers for not optimizing, because time is money and I don't think it's easy to optimize and fit 12 GB of content into 8 GB.

The only question is: Do GPU makers see it being worth using GDDR7 3 GB densities (currently, only the 5090 Laptop GPU uses 3 GB densities, the rest uses 2 GB per chip) on this kind of low GPU performance (like this 5050 Laptop) GPUs. The 4050 had 6 GB VRAM, so it's already an improvement.

(For the ones who don't know: The rumor is that e.g. the 5070 SUPER is gonna use 3 GB per chip, this will increase its VRAM by 50%: 12 GB -> 18 GB, and same for the 5070 Ti SUPER:

The bus width, however, allegedly remains the same at a 192-bit.
Indeed it is the biggest complaint. Allegedly? Of course it will remain the same (already the case for the 5090 Laptop (256-bit chip), as mentioned), just 3 GB per GDDR7 chip will be used, instead of the current 2 GB. A single GDDR7 memory chip uses 32-bit wide lanes, 192-bit / 32-bit per chip = 6 GDDR7 chips. 6 chips * 3 GB per chip = 18 GB.)

@just know:

Thought you were going to give possible alternative solutions.

Like the current state of egpu. And if the issues of past like bandwidth limitations and latency been resolved yet or not. Possible recommendations, if it truly has become a viable option.

Alas, it's the same old repetitive spam providing no real answers to the problem. I'm disappointed yet again. :(
