Final Fantasy 9 will return in 2028, but not in the form some fans had been expecting. A French company has revived The Black Mages' Legacy anime following the previous studio's bankruptcy. Square Enix has also teased gamers with merchandise, but refuses to acknowledge the Final Fantasy 9 remake.
