Title: Steam pushes for an inevitable 64-bit future as Valve Sets 2026 deadline for 32-bit Windows client
Post by: Redaktion on December 23, 2025, 05:55:27
Valve is phasing out 32-bit Windows support for Steam, with the client shifting entirely to 64-bit on compatible PCs and updates ending for 32-bit systems on 1 January 2026. While the change affects only a tiny minority of users, those who don't upgrade their OS, or are stuck on legacy 32-bit hardware, will lose access to client updates, security patches, customer support, and reliable compatibility with new games.

I do not know, but community of gamers and devs should step up and make some sort of port, however if the code is not opensource it could be difficult. Also I dont understand steam because in steam a lot of good old games 32 bit it could years to remake them in 64 bit... ofc what I am talking evrything for corporate greed who gives a sh.t for these concerns of simple customers. MS proved corporation always right and client should obey everything whatever it says)))

"Furthermore, this change won't affect 32-bit games on Steam as they'll work as intended on 64-bit Windows, thanks to added compatibility layers already in play from Microsoft's Windows on Windows (WOW64) tweaks. Valve emphasized this point to avoid any confusion among Steam users."

That's a bit of an excessive exaggeration, no? Given the fact that the whole list is publicly available: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/593110 (https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/593110)

So 13 updates in the past year. Hardly to be described as "everyday", especially when we consider that we are 25 days in December, twice more than the total amount of updates since the December of 2024  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
