More than ten years after announcing Zigbee 3.0, the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) recently introduced Zigbee 4.0 and the sub-GHz brand Suzi. The new standard promises significantly longer range and enhanced security, but the announcement also leaves some questions unanswered.

nothing confusing nor surprising here, Matter is a protocol, while Zigbee is the interface. It's more on practicality i.e. some would prefer not to use WiFi-based IoT due to security concern. It took more than a decade, true, but that's because we just found a meaningful usecase for it. Same goes to Bluetooth where it starts to become active after the implementation of BLE
