The electric Caltrain is not even two years old, and budget cuts are already looming on the important connection between San Francisco and San José in the heart of Silicon Valley. Unless sufficient funding is secured, the recently modernized and expensive system will face significant cutbacks. Even stations could be closed. Here's a look at the current situation.

Trains... yet another 1st world thing that the US doesn't seem to be capable of doing right.
I guess that car dependence in the US is so great that trains don't get the funding they deserve?

You knew this CalTrans system was doomed because the day after they turned on the electrics, they were immediately making noise about its efficiency in the press. Before they even had real data supporting their press. It was all about pumping the taxpayers to get the funding.
