The prices of DDR4 and DDR5 memory have recorded a sharp increase, and many kits are now retailing at 2x or more above their record-low prices. Sadly, this trend is allegedly going to get worse, as RAM packaging companies are reportedly raising their prices by a double-digit margin in the coming months.

The true is the greed of the companies!
DDR4 use different factory lines
Also, for Ai you use different chips and memories...

What are the chances this shortage (which drives prices up) is somewhat made-up?

We've been hearing a similar tune concerning hard drives, that AI data centers are scooping up so many drives that stocks are scarce and prices are going up.

Which I can understand when it comes to data center drive models, but consumer models for home NAS devices are studidly overpriced all of a sudden.

Why would they bother with 6-8-10TB SATA hard drives? It makes no sense other than when they're setting up a fake shortage to drive prices up, purely out of greed (as if tariffs weren't enough).

Could it be the same thing with RAM?

It's honestly cheaper now to buy OEM systems and harvest them for ram lol or just get AMD systems with unified memory
