That is some very impressive single threaded performance in geekbench shown by the 8 Elite Gen 5.

I think this is the first time ever(?) that I have ever seen an android phone finally equal apples cpu in like the last 10 years, ever since they went custom in-house.

I guess all the ex-apple CPU architects leaving really had an impact to them and it was a smart decision in the end qcomm buying Nuvia.

Also the Xiaomi 17 scores much lower than older SoCs and e.g. the Xiaomi 15 scores 12% to 65% higher and 635 ms vs 454 ms for the Xiaomi 15. Why? Let's see if other phones with this SD 8 Elite Gen 5 SOC score this unexpectedly low, but I don't expect it, implying the Xiaomi 17 has a bug that slows it down, missing libraries or if it's on purpose for whatever reason(s) (power consumption and therefore heat being an issue?, artificial market segmentation?, ?).

21% to 34% is not "slightly": Ask AI for which % increase the word "slightly" can be used (try lmarena.ai), it's mostly for single percentages increases, and borderline when it's close to a 10% increase. You might call it "slightly" at a 10% increase, because it's the idle measurement, but that's still about it.
