The fact that many of these stuff require cloud to function is a crime and should be illegal.

In the case of the eight sleep bed, I hear there are unofficial open source firmware that make everything work without the cloud. So the ability is there. These companies push cloud even on these expensive hardware so they can lock features behind subscriptions which is disgusting considering how expensive the stuff is already
