Title: Samsung making 2nm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip samples for Qualcomm
Post by: Redaktion on October 10, 2025, 07:00:34
The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is already in production with TSMC, but a major challenge is brewing. Qualcomm is reportedly testing samples of the same flagship chip built on Samsung's latest 2nm GAA process. This development could trigger a price war and shake TSMC's dominance.

Isn't it possible they 2nm are not for Dual Sourcing but for a "Galaxy" version of the chip as they have done on previous years? Also while competition is good, if this is a case of Dual Sourcing, let's not forget the last time Apple Dual Sourced an SoC (curiously with both TSMC and Samsung) it was a chaos as both chips didn't perform on par, leading to noticeable differences between the same iPhone.

It's not just last time but every time. They've never performed on par.

They're only good for budget SoCs where cost is paramount but performance not much.
